alt hspace=10 mce_tsrc=Last month Justin was wandering Hall 2 of the IHRSA Trade Show and seeking some 'enlightenment,' when he came across a lead box booth. Nothing to exciting yet!

NOTE: We are finalising the agreement to have exclusive distribution rights to cardboard lead boxes . . . very affordable and we hope to make an announcement in May!

Now we are firm believers in the enormous benefits lead boxes can bring to a business when used properly. In establishing your lead box strategy we would encourage you to read: Long Live The Lead Box.

But when chatting with the business owner I picked up one the biggest golden nuggets of the entire trip to IHRSA, in a throw line. And it was how we ring the prospects.

Mark suggested when we call we tell them have won! Not won second prize but tell they they have won and have the opportunity to win the major proze - whatever you are advertising. But they must come into the club. When they do you have a fish bowl that has 50 white tokens, 50 blue tokens and 1 red token - which happens to be the major prize. This means everyone has a chance of winning - you can increase or lower the odds based on the number of tokens!

I love it . . . and your script will sound so much better than "Congratulations you have won second prize!" or "I am sorry you didn't win first prize but you did win second prize!"

With this method, you can even increase the value of first prize.

Thanks Mark for that golden nugget. If you have a unique method of cutting through and marketing your business we want to hear about it. Tell us CLICK HERE

Linking the Obama brand and the Obama website had never been done before and in this election, proved to be one of the major the differences! But he knew is way going to be a key differentiator and so he hired the best - there is a buiness tip in itself: hire the best.

His key web developer was from Harvard and took a break from working with his mates on another project called Facebook!

BarackObama.com featured constant updates, videos, photos, ring tones, widgets, and events to give supporters a reason to come back to the site. On mybarackobama.com, the campaign's quasi-social network, Obamaniacs could create their own blogs around platform issues, send policy recommendations directly to the campaign, set up their own mini fund-raising site, organise an event, even use a phone-bank widget to get call lists and scripts to tele-canvass from home.

Never seen before was the use of the web. . .

Thanks to the data and their web presence, we saw a new way to fund a political campaign . . . the Internet. To run for Office is a massive expense and traditional fund raising is now a thing of the past. Obama proved that when united behind leader and a vision, people will use the internet to pay for things and donate.

In 30 days he raised $150m with 75% of that coming via the web! Truely amazing stuff!

It also showed how much power there is numbers . . . there were millions of donations that were less than $100. And millions of people that donated two, three or more times. So there is power in the repeat selling of small amounts!

They were so successful they could forego running traditional fund raising events to focus on the web!

This showed that people will make donations and spend their money on the internet if they believe in the cause and have trust. Do your customers or potential customers trust you or believe enough in your products to spend on-line?

If not . . . build the trust. While at the same time, developing your on-line strategy. You are not running for President, but developing another method of generating income would be an advantage to any business.

When at IHRSA, I caught up with Will Phillips - the owner of REX Round Tables. This man has insights on business and the future that many industry leaders pay ten of thousands of dollars (US dollars too!) to hear - hence the nickname: Yoda.

I am excited to call him a friend. Impirtantly I spent several long conversations with him discussing the current economic climate and more.

We also discussed Round Tables. He was super excited to know we are growing in Australia and New Zealand but announced we will be having a meeting between all the REX Chairs from around the world 2 or 3 times a year. Now that got me super excited.

It means that I will now have quality worldly information to share with Round Tables and also allow us to further develop the program and resources. Making Round Table even better!

We currently have 5 Round Tables:

  • Australian Club Owners Round Table - we are full and are taking names for the waiting list;
  • Australian Fitness Roudn Table - there are 4 vacancies;
  • Australian Personal Trainers Round Table - there are 2 vacancies;
  • South Australian Round Table - we are full and are taking names for the waiting list;
  • Round Table Western Australia - 6 vacancies

Last month we launched New Zealand Round Table, so we have several vacancies and later this month we will launch Queensland Round Table.

If you would like any more information on the Round Table program, visit the Round Table website or email Justin

Argh the maraccas . . . what a learning experience for kids! This month Zoe learnt how to reach out grab them and then shake them. It makes you such a porud parent when you see such a small achievement (all the parents will know what I mean!).

But it was in her third day that I got this months business lesson! She was shaking them like Hugh Jackman in The Boy From Oz when all of sudden 'CLUNK!' She shook it so hard that she lost control and it banged her in the head above the right eye. Now if this wasn't your child and you saw this on Australia's Funniest Home Video, you would crack up. But this was my child.

Well, I have to admit . . . I did laugh! It was funny. Then I picked her up cuddled her and explained what happened and that it was best not to hit the maracca in her head!

But it got me thinking, 'Will she repeat this behaviour? Or will she remember the pain as a result of that movement?' To be honest I don't know if she did remember but she has not done it since and she is still learning.

The lesson for us here is that we need to allow our staff to make mistakes. From these mistakes they learn. These experiences help shape their skills and their future. So allow them to make a few errors or mistakes but just be there to pick them up if they make a mistake. It would be rare an employee could make a mistake that will send you broke, so give them some freedom and empower them.

In the last 30 days so much has happened for me. I have been booked to help 4 clubs with training their staff all over Australia. The Australian Institute of Fitness has rekindled our relationship and I am doing 3 sessions for Certificate IV Personal Training. The YMCA in New Zealnd have booked me to speak at their conference and I have also locked in speaking at BizGrow in August in New Zealand.

Of course I attended IHRSA, which was awesome! Great to catch up with old friends and meet new ones. In one focus group session I had people from Russia, Iceland, Israel, Canada and the US - WOW!

In the next couple of days I will catch up with many friends at Filex - the best fitness business conference in the world! I am speaking at the Business Summit (as well as being MC) plus a full day session on the 6 steps of business management and then one session on Saturday on lessons we can learn from Bunnings. So please come along and say 'Hi!'

But the really cool things for me is the excitement I am getting from technology! I am Twittering (you can follow what I am doing by going to Twitter and searching for ActiveMgmt). I am using Facebook better. I even wrote most of this newsletter. But most importantly I am blogging! And regularly. I would love you to check out my blog regularly and let me know your thoughts.

See you at Filex . . .
