Exclusive New Product Announcement
and Offer for Active Management

by Sherry Robb, founder of Market My Club.com

They called me crazy for trying to innovate a website that nobody was sure was even possible to create: a fully-loaded, community building, video-streaming, blogging, vlogging, auto-responding marketing machine with all the flash and pizzazz that would be valued at $50,000 but which could be sold for less than $5K.

Maybe I was crazy! The idea that we could innovate an install package with so many features and at the same time make customisation unbelievably cost-effective, drove me and my team to distraction - around the clock for weeks on end. I mean, nobody had done anything like this previously and we weren’t sure that it could be done now. Read more>

Last month I got an email from old friend Xen Angelides,  who is now working for Expresso Fitness.  He reminded me of some of the secrets that Martina Navratilova shared at the 2008 IHRSA conference on living a champion’s life:

To live a champion’s life
1.    Play constantly to your strengths:  Do what you do best
2.    Never quit until you get it right: Keep changing and do what is needed to get it right. If you use your minutes wisely the hours will take care of themselves
3.    You need to decide what you want: Do one step at a time, little by little. It is manageable, make sure every day counts. Create the vision in your mind. Do it every day
4.    You must turn adversity into opportunity: The struggle is there to make us grow and get stronger. All ways pick yourself up and learn from it
5.    Always be who you are and true to yourself: Show the world who you are. Take the steps and risks to make things happen
6.    Surround yourself with a support syste: People who believe in you, strength in numbers. Have heroes and mentors
7.    You must have fun:  It isn’t achieving to be happy, it is happily achieving.

Nobody likes to buy from someone they don’t like. So in your communication with your future, current and past customers, you need to be authentic.

With so many choices, consumers want to deal with someone they feel they know and can trust. The more "real" you are the more likely people will buy from you initially and ongoing.

Show genuine interest in your customers/members/clients.  Find out their likes, dislikes and speak in the language they like to be spoken in.

Be honest with them. They will value this and it will build trust. If we are ever going to like someone we will need to trust them.
Work on your skills to have people like you and increase your honesty!

This month I read the following from an Unknown Author and just loved it as everything I need to know about life, I learned from Noah’s Ark . . .
ONE Don’t miss the boat!
TWO Remember that we are all in the same boat
THREE It wasn’t raining when Noah built the ark
FOUR Stay fit – when you’re 600 years old, someone may ask you to do something really big
FIVE Don’t listen to critics; just get the job done that needs to be done
SIX Build your future on higher ground
SEVEN For safety’s sake, travel in pairs
EIGHT Speed isn’t always an advantage, the snails were on board with the cheetahs
NINE When you are stressed, float a while
TEN Remember, the Ark was built by amateurs; the Titanic by professionals

I love running Round Tables, as you learn so much about business and people. It can also be extremely rewarding and an unsolicited email came to me last month, that I wanted to share:

“The round table as been incredible for me and my business.  If I hadn’t joined I would be still scratching my head wondering why my business wasn’t growing.  The knowledge that I have gained in sales, KPI’s and marketing have been paramount to this success.  The personal coaching during the meetings is also very useful for me as a manager.  Thanks for facilitating this for me.”

This makes running Round Tables so worth while!

And congratulations to Mel from Ballarat for winning her Round Table’s Star Performer!

I was chatting with a child care specialist and she was explaining to me that every movement adults have must be learned as a child. And of course this makes sense, I mean walking needs to be learned. But then she explained little skills like reaching out to touch or grab something must be learned.

Again this does make sense once said, but until then I guess I thought, she will just get it!  It will come naturally.

And so in business, do we also assume our staff will ‘just get it?’

I regularly hear business owners complaining about staff not speaking with customers, clients or members.  And I wonder if we have been so focused on teaching the big picture of the job role that we have forgotten the basics – how to speak to someone they don’t know.

Or I hear owners complain about the phone manner of their staff but maybe no-one has taught them what good phone manner is?

I would urge you to consider all the small skills that make up the job and make sure your team have ample opportunity to practice the small skills, so the big job is easier.
