In the past 30 days I have been very fortunate to speak at the Aquatic Recreation Institute national conference, the Ultimate Health Event and the Original BootCamp Company’s annual conference. Thank you to the people who gave me this opportunity.
This month I am doing a 20 minute presentation at the My Biz Expo – my first non-fitness industry presentation. My Biz Expo has heaps of seminars, so if you are in Sydney, it would be worth going to for some small business learning!

Getting the Colour Right
Recently, I looked at a printed marketing piece and thought “What the . . .” The colours were so not what I wanted. So I chatted with my printer and here are some basic tips for you to remember (and not make the same mistake as me):
CMYK is when printers use cyan, magenta, yellow and black toner.
RGB is red, blue and green that you see on the computer screen
RGB files will not print the same when using CMYK
To be most accurate with your colours use programs that can reproduce CMYK like InDesign and PhotoShop.
Power of Viral Marketing
This ad was voted the best ad in the world (maybe because of the Adonis in the ad) but in just 4 days:
This campaign spurned 180 other videos on-line;
Viewed more than 5.9 million times (now up to 14 million plus views);
And attracted 22, 500 comments!
Viral marketing can catapult your business into a new stratosphere.
Is Your Website Fit Enough?
We have an awesome guest article from Melinda from 'Win Clicks' this month on how to make sure you are getting the most from your website. Mel says that, “The quality of visitors to your website is more important than the quantity.”
In her article, she explains some of the key statistics for your website:
The number of unique visitors
Total Visits, which includes individuals who visited more than once.
The Average Time on Site that your visitors spend reading your website (this gives an indication of the quality of your content and ease of navigation).
Bounce Rate is the percentage of visitors who “bounce” away without clicking on anything. The lower the better! For example, if your bounce rate is 100% then seek professional website help because all visitors are bouncing away without clicking on anything.

Workplace Bullying Is Serious
A recent case in South Australia shocked a fire fighter when he considered his remarks light hearted and made in jest but the court did not accept his comments, especially as he was a supervisor. The Court demoted him and criticised management.
Here are 5 tips to minimise bullying:
Be very clear – ensure you have detailed bullying, discrimination and harassment policies. This must include steps to be taken where bullying is suspected. Ensure social media and modern communication are addressed.
Have an open door – make sure your employees are comfortable reporting bullying to their manager or have an avenue to go down if the manager is the problem.
Be pro-active – early intervention is critical, so what starts as harmless today can degenerate quickly.
No lip service – if you have a policy, follow it and enforce it;
Don’t put your head in the sand – failing to act where bullying is suspected, even without a formal complaint, can make you liable under OHS and industrial laws.
Fitness First’s $225K Fine A Warning For All
Last month the ACCC ruled that the February promotion run by Fitness First was misleading and false.
The Fitness First “gold coin to join” promotion, which ran during January and February of 2010, said that gym customers could pay a “gold coin” and a special administrative fee to join the gym network, instead of the usual joining fee. However, the posters used to advertise the promotion only focused on the joining fee discount and did not include a single, total price for a membership.
Under the component pricing laws introduced in July 2009, businesses are required to show a single price for their goods or services, including all taxes, duties, fees and other mandatory charges.
We all want our Teams to outreach and network. Here are some great tips from Sharon Williams at Taurus Marketing, featured in this month’s Dynamic Business magazine:
Do some research prior to the event to have an overview of who will be at the networking event.
Get there early to take advantage of any pre-event socializing.
Have some clear goals on why you are attending – is it the number of people to meet or meeting key people?
Be a real person at these events, so whether you are shy or a social butterfly be authentic
Use the opportunity to introduce yourself as a resource for people – the go to person for suggestions, ideas, and specialist information.
Make sure you follow up with the contacts you have met.
A fantastic book to read to help is "The Little Black Book of Connections" by Jeffrey Gitomer.
