Justin Tamsett B. Ed; Reg Fitness Leader

Justin began presenting in 1998 and has had many great opportunities over the years. He has been a keynote speaker at Filex since 1998 and presented internationally since 2000.  He has spoken in New Zealand, the Philippines, Hong Kong, China, Indonesia, China, USA, UK, Brazil and Argentina.

Now he relates many of the lessons he has learnt and mistakes he has made to messages that you and your Team can directly relate to in your business, study or life.

And whether there are 1500 or 20 people, those who attend Justin’s sessions walk away with a toolbox of ideas, strategies and actions that will improve their lives, increase profitability for their business and enhance their zest for life with extra motivation.

Health Club Consulting

Justin began sharing his knowledge with other business owners in 1997 as a motivational speaker and since 2005 he has been sought after as a fitness business consultant and management coach.  Owing to his extensive experience, he now advises clubs of all sizes and locations.  Based in Sydney, Justin Tamsett is world renowned in developing marketing plans for any budget that produce results.

He has also designed, planned and supervised the building of purpose-built fitness clubs.

Industry Supporter

Justin was the President of The Hunter Institute of Higher Education Student Representative Council.  This meant he was an integral person in the amalgamation of The University and the Institute’s student representative bodies. The experience he gained was invaluable. Justin at this point honed his problem solving, negotiation, people management skills and more.

Justin was elected President of the Fitness Centres Association in 1993. The fitness industry was changing and a new peak body for fitness was being developed. Justin with several colleagues was a catalyst in the formation of Fitness NSW. 1997 saw the incorporation of Fitness NSW and Justin was appointed the President. Then 12 months later at the first election for Fitness NSW, his peers elected Justin President for a two-year term.

During the formation of the body the skills Justin had learnt in the past were reinforced, plus he learned many more as there was a direct relationship with several government departments, consumer bodies and unions.

In this role, Justin met regularly with Government Representatives, ran meetings, gave interviews with the media and planned the development of the industry.  After leaving the industry body for 6 years, Justin returned to Fitness NSW as a board member and then also as the President from 2006 to 2008.  In this term, he was instrumental in the formation of a single national industry body.  So he was the first and last President of FitnessNSW

Fitness Industry Experience

Justin first started as a gym instructor at Howzat Fitness World, in Newcastle in 1988. In 1991, he started his own Personal Training business called The Physical Epitome, which he sold in 1992.

He was at Howzat for 3 years whilst completing his Bachelor of Education majoring in Physical and Health Education at Newcastle University. Studying often took a back seat, as he worked in the gym, played first grade rugby union and was a major figure in the politics within the University.

On graduation, Justin continued his career in the fitness industry with Jamie Hayes at Body Express. After working for free for 2 weeks to secure a position, Justin began as a gym instructor. He quickly moved into sales and joint management until finally managing his own Body Express health club at Bondi Beach.

In 1994, Justin and his parents opened Active Fitness Centre. The club was 1100m2 fitness only facility with added services including crèche, massage, solarium, personal training, physiotherapist and pilates studio. In 2001, Justin opened his second club a 300m2 facility called Active Health Club.

In 2002, Active Fitness Centre was sold to Fitness First.  This was the first Australian club to be sold to Australia’s largest chain. In 2008, Active Health Club was sold after 7 years of operation and growth to more than 1200 members. Justin turned his attention to Active Management consulting services, speaking engagements...and starting a family.
