Since my last E-news I have been to India as part of IHRSA’s first Management Training program. What a superb experience! I got there a couple of days early and checked out the sites (you can see my album on the Active Management Fan Page) before presenting in Delhi and Mumbai. The people were amazingly friendly and welcoming. Plus of course incredibly gracious for IHRSA making the effort.
With 1.25 billion – yes you read that right billion – people, the Indian market will explode! There are already 75 Talwakers gyms, Golds plan for 50 and Fitness First 39. If you get a chance to visit . . . I recommend it!
Your Brand – Stay on Brand!
I read a great interview on Brad Sugars this month and I wanted to share the 2 key points on your Brand:
1. Ensure you are pro-active rather than reactive. Don’t wait for people, the media or others to come to you, you go to them! Have a massive presence on social media!
2. If you are not blogging yet, “you might as well give up.”
I was super pleased to read how much emphasis Sugars places on social media. This is certainly the cutting edge way to market your business and yourself – so long as you stay on brand!
Facebook is an awesome tool for building relationships. It allows you to quickly provide information to people that want it – that is, if they don’t want it, they won’t be a fan! This media will allow you to do your 60 second ad uninterrupted!
Twitter will give you a 5 second ad to direct traffic to where you want them to head! You can no longer keep your head in the sand with social media . . .
Fair Shake of the Source
A new social media site, www.sourcebottle.com.au, connects journalists with business owners. You can now respond directly to journalists who are doing stories. At no cost you can register and respond to people who may just write about you and your business!

You’ve Changed Ladies
This month in I read a fascinating article in the Daily Mail in the UK that shared the changes in the women’s bodies over the past 60 years and there were things that didn’t surprise me about the results or even the implications BUT there was one that stood out .
I loved the justification on why women are now taller – central heating! Professor Bernard Harris says we used more energy to keep warm in the 50’s and today that energy is directed to making us taller! And this fact: It's been estimated that Fifties woman burned more than 1,000 calories a day doing her everyday activities (such as housework) compared with 556 today.

Round Table heard it FIRST!
It was 4 months ago we had our last Round Table meeting. To begin the meeting I shared several industry trends and things to watch: Jukari and New U from Fitness First. We also started reading Seth Godin’s latest book – Tribes.
Interestingly, Jukari has now been featured on You Tube, UK Health Management magazine, Who magazine here in Australia and even on TV! New U is the creation of UK Fitness First and is a Wii Personal Trainer program. This was released this month in Australia.
And a conference in Sydney this month every speaker spoke on the importance of generating ‘Tribes’ for the success of your business.
I am really excited that the topics we discuss at Round Table become public knowledge some 4 to 12 months after we have discussed them and the members have already began to implement plans. This very cool and rewarding.
FYI – seems Jukari will not take off in too many clubs. Unfortunately, for Reebok it will could well be another “Slide!”

In the last 35 days, I have been home for a total of 14 days and they were a great 14 days. But what I realised was how important it was not to take anything for granted. When I travel, I miss Zoe. I cannot hide that . . . so when I get home every little things she does is very cool. I realise just how much she means to mean, when I don’t see her for a few days.
I wonder if as owners we spend too much time in our business? I wonder if we took 8 weeks – even just the standard 4 weeks – holiday every year, if we would return to the business with increased vigour and enthusiasm? I wonder if not calling or visiting the business from 2pm on Friday until 11am on Monday, would mean when we go back we realise how important what we do is to us? Consider in the next 90 days (that means Christmas) taking at least 14 days off and away from the business, this might just give you the energy boost for 2010 that you are seeking?
