2016 Fitness Australia Board Nominee: Mel Tempest

Mel Tempest

So here I find myself up for nomination for the board of directors for Fitness Australia. Why? It’s a pretty simple answer times are changing we are no longer the industry of a decade behind us; actually we aren’t even the industry of five years ago. Scary futures in front of us if we don’t get it right.

I’m not going to tell you of my decades of experience and passion for the industry because honestly I’ve only been in the industry 16 years and 13 of them as a club owner and you can search me on social media to learn more about me if you want!

It’s what you do with your time that’s relevant not the distance.

If I weren’t passionate about what I do “making a difference” I wouldn’t have taken this step. What I do want to tell you is I want a better experience for the independent fitness business owner, that’s who I represent. I work on/in my business everyday and I understand the struggle that owners live with.

I want Fitness Australia to be a place where you feel confident in being a member. But first we need to get the house in order and start again.

Fitness Australia needs to be about the business of fitness and its members. Our focus needs to be on the education of the new breed of trainers coming from RTO’s, I personally dislike the easiness of entering this industry without having to meet tougher guidelines.

  • Stronger focuses on independent clubs so they don’t become obsolete like the corner milk bar.
  • Creating equality for all fitness business members.
  • Workshops for members focusing on regional areas.
  • We need to become more media savvy and edgy.
  • We need a stronger USP.
  • We need to give members a wider forum to voice their concerns yet at the same time encourage positivity in the new era that is about to present itself.
  • More financial benefits for members.

I’m not a follower I’m a leader, I’m not afraid of conflict; I’d like to be your voice as we face the new era together.
