Blue Fitness Part 1 | Introducing Ben Davies the company Director of Blue Fitness
2022 marked the 20th year of Blue Fitness. Ben Davies, Managing Director was recently interviewed by Justin Tamsett from Active Management on this milestone and the next 20 years.
Why do you do what you do? Where did you start?
My passion has always been in Health, Sport and Fitness and began by wanting to be a Phys Ed teacher and studied a Bachelor of Phys Ed at Otago University. Post that was 10 years to the day with YMCA Auckland, leaving to start NZBLUE Ltd a Consultancy company and then via a great mate Dan Djoeandy who headed up Asia Pacific for Star Trac starting Blue Fitness Ltd, with Star Trac as its inaugural brand.

Ben Davies is founder and owner of the Blue Leisure Group of companies. A group of 7 companies including Blue Fitness, specialising in the Health and Fitness Industry in New Zealand and Australia providing consultancy, finance, fitness and member retention.
Since 2002 Blue Fitness has been the premium supplier and exclusive distributor of over 20 of the World’s Best Fitness Brands. Based in Auckland, with an extensive parts holding, and sales and service infrastructure throughout New Zealand, the team are proud to have equipped Hotels, Local and National Government Leisure Centres, Sports Franchises, Commercial Cubs, Police, Fire, Military, Universities, Schools and Apartments.
Ben has been in the industry for close to 30 years, starting the first of the groups companies in 2002. Ben has a degree in Physical Education from Otago and post graduate qualifications in Finance from Massey University. Previous roles have been as Executive Director YMCA Auckland, Contract Manager for West Wave Aquatic Centre in Auckland, Industry Business Consultant, lecturer and high-performance coach. As an International Triathlete and Ironman competitor, you’ll find Ben training for Ironman #6 when not working with customers, or teaching an indoor cycling class.

Justin is the Managing Director of Active Management, which he began January 2004. He offers coaching to businesses worldwide in everything from start up and design to marketing and sales systems. Justin also facilitates four Australian and New Zealand ‘fitness industry roundtables’ events, which allows him to see a huge cross section of business models.
