#JTInTheRaw Show 140 | Good Leader? Great Leader? Or a Real Leader?

Time to watch on replay … What sort of a leader are you?

Simon Sinek sites in his book Leaders Eat Last that leaders eat last. He asked General Flynn why the US Marines are such a uniquely strong Corp … he said the “The officers eat last!” This is just not symbolic but is deeply rooted into the Marine Corp. In #JTInTheRaw this week I’ll give a very real, practical example of a leader eating last – a lesson we can all learn from!

There is just one shout out to a courageous young man who sets an example for us in our professional development – wait till you hear his story!

And as always a challenge to have you think and do different in your leadership!

Join the fun … comment … and hit me up with some if you like what I share in #JTInTheRawShow140

Love Simon Sinek work! “Leaders eat last” is an amazing book, and another great one (great as present to give to people) is “Together is better”.

Something you do not know about me?…. well, after years of working for a company that allows bullying, that treats people as numbers on a spreadsheet, that takes advantage of people squeezing them like lemons with no respect….. I realized that even if I keep on standing up for others, even if I keep on sharing Simon Sinek work, changing things is not possible.

It is not possible when people at the top of the company think that their employees have no value, that putting employees one against each other is the way to get the best out of people, that using the “carrot and stick” trick is the way to motivate people (note: if you like Simon Sinek, check also Edward Deci work, you will love it), that playing with people’s salary is the way to cut company’s cost.

So, sadly, I decided that it is time for me to move on, to change workplace and start fresh with people that hopefully are driven by values more similar to mine ….. does it mean that I’m giving up on this team? maybe…. but at the same time, I think it is important to understand when there is no way to change a situation that is above me.
What’s the point of keep on showing something different to people who do not see anything wrong with their behaviour? Isn’t that the definition of ‘insanity”?
It is a matter of values: you cannot expect your values to be the same of anyone else, we are all different. And it happens that company values may collides with your values and integrity.
You can stand up for your people, you can share your values with them, you can be there for them, but there is a limit to how much and for how long you can fight. After a certain point, it is up to every single person to stand up for him/herself.
